Two lanes,one origin

Everything leaves Ho Chi Minh City. From there it is five ports in Australia or five in Canada — with different transit times, different trade agreements and, for steel, very different duty positions.

/ Incoterms

Terms we sell on

The same two terms apply to both lanes. The difference is where our responsibility stops and yours begins. Tell us which one your procurement process runs on and we quote against it.

FOB

Free On Board

We deliver, clear for export and load at Ho Chi Minh City. You arrange sea freight, insurance, customs clearance and local delivery.

Suits: Buyers who already have a freight forwarder and a customs broker.

CIF

Cost, Insurance & Freight

We arrange sea freight and insurance to your nominated port in Australia or Canada. You clear customs at arrival.

Suits: Buyers who import occasionally and want one less moving part.

/ Duty & tax

What lands on top of the factory price

Three layers sit between our invoice and your warehouse. Two of them are the same in both countries. Only one is different — and it is smaller in Canada.

01

Import duty

Vietnamese-made goods enter both markets duty free — Australia under AANZFTA or CPTPP, Canada under CPTPP. What differs is the paperwork. Australia wants a certificate of origin on the agreement’s own form. CPTPP prescribes no form at all: the certification can sit on the commercial invoice, provided it carries the minimum data set in Annex 3-B.

02

Consumption tax

Australia charges GST on the customs value plus freight, insurance and any duty. Canada charges federal GST at the border; provincial sales tax is separate and depends on the province and your registration — Ontario, Quebec and BC are each handled differently.

The only line that differs between the two lanes — Australia is double.

03

Port & clearance

Terminal handling, quarantine or inspection, and broker fees. Charged by the terminal and by your own broker, not by us — the figure moves with the port and the service level you choose.

Bars are drawn to scale against each other, not against your goods value. Rates checked 20 August 2026. Duty and tax treatment depends on the goods, their tariff classification and your own circumstances. Confirm your position with a licensed customs broker before you order — nothing on this page is customs advice.

Anti-dumping position on rebar

Duty-free entry under a trade agreement and anti-dumping duty are two separate things. A product can qualify for one and still attract the other. For reinforcing bar the two countries are currently in opposite positions.

Australia

No duty

Vietnamese rebar enters free of anti-dumping duty

The Anti-Dumping Commission investigated hot-rolled deformed reinforcing bar from Vietnam and found a dumping margin below the 2% threshold at which measures can be imposed. No measures were imposed.

What to doPrice steel into Australia at the ordinary duty-free rate.

Canada

Duty applies

A CITT finding covers rebar from Vietnam

Anti-dumping duty is payable on concrete reinforcing bar of Vietnamese origin, and the finding is under expiry review — so the rate is a moving number, not one to read off a website.

What to doAsk us for the rate that applies on the day, before you price the job.

Anti-dumping measures are reviewed and can change. Ask us for the current position before you price a steel order into either market, and confirm it with your own customs broker.

Ask for a landed cost estimate

Tell us the product, the quantity and the delivery port. We quote freight alongside unit pricing so you can see the landed number, not just the factory number.
